The Child Nutrition Department is dedicated to students' health, well being, and their ability to learn. We support learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition and fitness practices. Meals, foods, and beverages sold or served at schools meet state and federal requirements, which are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines. We provide students with access to a variety of affordable and appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students.

National Nutrition Month

National Nutrition Month® is an annual campaign established in 1973 by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. During the month of March, everyone is invited to learn about making informed food choices and developing healthful eating and physical activity habits.

This year's theme is "Food Connects Us." Food is a connecting factor for many of us. Food connects us to our cultures, our families and our friends. Sharing a meal is an opportunity to learn about its preparation, who made it and where the ingredients were sourced. Health, memories, traditions, seasons and access can all impact our relationship with food. While these factors influence the foods we eat, the foods we eat also affect our health.

School Breakfast Week- March 3rd-6th

The School Breakfast Program at VCPUSD provides approximately 22, 000 nutritious breakfasts to hungry children across our district every day. These breakfasts tend to be more nutritious than the average breakfast a child gets from home or a convenient fast-food restaurant.

Did you know children who eat breakfast are more likely to…

  • Reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math

  • Score higher on standardized tests

  • Have better concentration and memory

  • Be more alert and maintain a healthy weight

Chef Ann Foundation

I am happy to share an incredible opportunity as we have partnered with the Chef Ann Foundation. Together we will start the Healthy School Food Pathway program at Valley Center High School.

The Healthy School Food Pathway (HSFP) program is a work-based learning experience that aims to increase scratch cooking in our schools. The program will offer hands-on training, and network to become confident leaders that have in-depth knowledge and experience in creating and running successful scratch-cook meal programs in schools.

Meal Service Information

Valley Center-Pauma Unified School District provides a complementary breakfast and lunch to all students each school day.
