Students who will turn 5 years of age between Sept. 2, 2023 and June 2, 2024, can enroll now in Valley Center-Pauma Unified School District’s TK program. Over the next four years, TK will expand to include all 4 year olds.
The VCPUSD district is responding to a need in the community by offering TK one year earlier than state guidelines currently dictate.
For clarity, Kindergarten enrollment is for children who turn 5 years of age before Sep. 1, 2023.
The TK program acts as a bridge between preschool and kindergarten and is held in a classroom style environment with credentialed teachers leading each class.
VCPUSD schools are focused on care, connection, innovative learning, and serving the community.
The TK curriculum is based on a combination of the California Preschool Learning Foundations and Kinder Standards.
Students will be provided opportunities for social-emotional, language development, and communication through a play-based program. They will learn through small group instruction and intentional teaching utilizing hands-on activities.
Play is essential to a young child's brain development. Children learn about language, math, literacy, science in addition to essential social skills through play.
VCPUSD strives to develop students who are able to concentrate, problem-solve and follow directions. The program is designed to create students who become caring members of society, who can process information in a variety of ways, while collaborating with others.
VCPUSD encourages a strong sense of curiosity and vivid imaginations — to become thinkers and big dreamers.
With those goals in mind, VCPUSD TK program students play every single day.
The district has and will continue to hold a series of informational nights to provide more information about the classes and enrollment. Upcoming events will be held:
5:30-6:30 p.m. April 5 and May 24 at Valley Center Primary School
5-7 p.m. March 29 and May 18 at Lilac School
5:15-7 p.m. May 5 at Pauma School
The school day hours are the same as traditional kindergarten.
