On Wednesday, July 25, it was announced that Charlene Fischer was named Director of Transportation for the Valley Center Pauma Unified School District.
Fischer has been in the school bus industry for 17 years. In 2012, she became a California State Certified School Bus Driving Instructor, and in 2022, she received the State of California Transportation Administration Certification.
Fischer finds it "very rewarding to work with students, families, and staff."
"Charlene brings a wealth of experience to this position, and we are fortunate to add her to our leadership team," said VCPUSD Superintendent Ron McCowan on Wednesday.
Fischer grew up in Southern California with her family. Her father was in the commercial construction trade, and her mother was a school bus driver, so she is not a newcomer to the school bus world.
Fischer and her siblings enjoyed riding the school bus with their mother, and eventually, she and her sister — who by the way, is a school bus driver for Valley Center Pauma Unified School District — became school bus drivers themselves.
Fischer said she understands the importance of building relationships and strength in a community, and that is why she is so excited to be a part of Valley Center Pauma Unified School District.
Fischer is the mother of three adult children and two grandchildren that she loves spending time with.
