Valley Center-Pauma Unified School District Superintendent Ron McCowan announced Friday, April 19 that Nicole Clymer has been chosen as the new Principal of Valley Center High School, and Norma Carrillo as the new Principal of Oak Glen High School and Valley Center Prep School.
They will start in their new positions on July 1.
"Please join me in congratulating Nicole and Norma on their well-deserved promotions," Superintendent McCowan said in staff communications. "I have full confidence in their ability to inspire our students, support our staff, and uphold the values of our district. I am confident that under their leadership, Valley Center High School, Oak Glen High School, and Valley Center Prep School will thrive."
Clymer served as the Assistant Principal at Valley Center High School since 2018. Since then, she has spearheaded efforts to enhance interventions and discipline systems, ensuring they work harmoniously to provide personalized support and services for students, all while upholding a safe learning environment.
"Her extensive experience, coupled with her dedication to student success and innovative leadership, make her the ideal candidate to lead Valley Center High School into its next chapter of excellence," McCowan said.
"With eight years of experience as a site administrator and 23 years of experience supporting students, I bring with me a passion for fostering student success and a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment," Clymer said. "As a resident of Valley Center and a parent of three children who attend schools in this district, I understand firsthand the importance of a strong and thriving school community. I am deeply invested in the success and well-being of every student, and I am dedicated to working collaboratively with parents, guardians, teachers, and staff to ensure that each student reaches their full potential."
Carrillo has been an invaluable member of our district for many years having initially started as a counselor at Valley Center Middle School before transitioning to Valley Center High School as one of the Assistant Principals.
"Her passion for education, coupled with her dedication to fostering a supportive learning environment, have been evident throughout her tenure," McCowan said. "Norma's strong leadership skills and collaborative spirit will undoubtedly contribute to the continued growth and success of both Oak Glen High School and Valley Center Prep School."
"As I step into my new role as Principal of Alternative Education, I am committed to building upon the rich legacy of excellence and innovation that defines our district," Carrillo said. "I am deeply passionate about creating inclusive, student-centered learning environments where every individual is empowered to thrive and reach their full potential.

McCowan noted that Clymer and Carrillo will be working closely with their respective teams in the coming months to ensure a smooth transition.
